Qantas Oneworld Classic Flight Reward
Booking Guide
318,000 Qantas Points

What is the Oneworld Classic Flight Reward?
The Qantas Oneworld Classic Flight Reward, often called the Qantas round-the-world redemption, is a standout of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. It allows for an amazing multi-continent trip with up to five stopovers, flying Qantas and their Oneworld partners. This reward is especially valuable for its business class redemption, priced currently at 318,000 points.
How we flew around the world for 318,000 Qantas Points
Point Hacks Senior Content Producer Brandon Loo recently experienced this Business Class redemption firsthand. Starting in Sydney, his journey included stopovers in Tokyo, New York, Barcelona, Helsinki and Hong Kong, with additional layovers in Chicago, Madrid, London and Singapore.

What do you need?
To book this redemption, you’ll firstly need to have enough points in your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. So for Business Class, you’ll need 318,000 Qantas points per-person.
To secure this redemption, your itinerary must also meet the requirements set by Qantas to be considered eligible. You can see these rules below.
This round-the-world builder has been designed with a maximum of two travellers in mind. If you're looking to book for more than two people, you’ll likely encounter significant challenges with availability.
Note: From the 5th of August 2025, the cost of this redemption will increase to 365,800 Qantas Points. You can view all current and future redemption pricings by viewing the Qantas Oneworld Award Booking table.
How to plan out your itinerary?
First and foremost, approach the booking process with an open mind! If you’re locked into specific dates and destinations, you may quickly run into limited or no availability. Flexibility is key. For example, if including one leg in Premium Economy enables the rest of your journey to be in Business Class, book that flight! You can chop and change flights later for a small fee.
Check award seat availability to your preferred destinations, and use that info to sketch out a rough travel plan.
Note down availability to the key destinations/regions you'd like to visit (maximum of five stopovers over 24 hours).
Begin building your itinerary one flight at a time. We recommend starting with the most important flights and building around them. Think long-haul Business Class!
Confirm availability for each flight on the Qantas website as you go.
Record every flight you've selected, including the date, flight number, and departure/arrival times.
Calculate the distance of your itinerary, ensuring it remains under 35,000 miles. Don’t forget surface sectors (where you make your own way between two airports) and the distance from your origin airport to your final destination!
Double-check all the rules to ensure you remain within the requirements of this award booking.
Book your itinerary either online using the Qantas multi-city tool or by phone if required.

Rules:
Up to 16 segments (flights) of travel are allowed, including transits of 24 hours or less
In practice, up to 2 surface segments can be included (where you make your own way between two cities by alternative means of transport).
You can have up to five stopovers (where you stop for more than 24 hours)
You can only stopover in each city once and transit through each city twice on one booking.
After your first flight, you have 12 months to complete the whole itinerary.
You can travel up to 35,000 miles all up, including surface sectors and transits.
You may finish your itinerary in a different city to the one you started from, but the distance between the two cities will be taken into account in the final distance calculation
The whole itinerary will be priced based on the highest cabin in the itinerary. So if you have 14 Business Class flights and one short flight in First Class, the entire booking will reprice to the higher First Class rate.
You cannot stop over in the country where your trip begins unless it is the start or end of your trip.
Classic Plus Rewards cannot be added as part of a Qantas Oneworld Classic Flight Reward
You must include at least two oneworld airlines other than Qantas, and not include any non-oneworld airlines. It's not necessary to include a Qantas flight on the booking.
*Hawaiian Airlines is technically not yet part of Oneworld, but is an eligible airline.
*Oman Air & Fiji Airways are newly joined full Oneworld members, but are not currently eligible.
*Qatar Airways is eligible for the the Oneworld award, but Qantas receives Qatar Airways Business Class reward seats a mere 3 days prior to departure. This makes it impractical for this redemption.
Additional Information
Airline taxes guide
Every flight on your itinerary will have additional taxes, fees and charges attached, which you will be required to pay when booking. To keep this fee as low as possible, try to book with airlines that charge low taxes and carrier fees.
Another way to reduce the surcharge is to avoid flying out of the UK, as you will be charged with the UK Air Passenger Duty Tax (APD). This tax can add up to $470 AUD per-person onto your ticket. This does not affect flights into the UK, or transits under 24 hours.
Below is a rough guide to the extra carrier charges imposed by Oneworld airlines.

Oneworld hubs
Staying within one connecting flight of a major Oneworld hub can dramatically improve your ability to secure award seats across your journey. These are the major Oneworld hubs that are useful for your award:

Minimum connection times
When manually combining flights, it’s important to understand the minimum connection time (MCT) at the connecting airport. The Qantas website will notify at booking if your layover is below the MCT.

No availability to or from your desired city?
Availability is limited outside of the cities and routes included. You may need to book a positioning flight to a nearby city in order to connect to a flight with award availability. If doing so, ensure the layover is under 24 hours to avoid using one of your five permitted stopovers.
If booking the positioning flight as a separate ticket, we strongly recommend allowing at minimum a 48-hour layover. If this flight is on a separate ticket and you miss your connecting flight, the entire round-the-world itinerary will be forfeited.
