Get to the destination in the shortest time possible, the a three-four day layover on the way home to visit a new country/city or to re-visit.

Hi. As an ex travel agent, in my opinion without a doubt the best way is to use day flights with at least 15 hours transit. If you keep the stop under 24 hours, it is a transit, not a stopover. This means you buy a ticket with multiple transits for the point to point fare. For example, I recently flew SIN/BOM/AUH/PAR. The fare was about AU$600 one way inc taxes based on a SIN to PAR economy fare. I had long transits (15 -18 hours) in BOM & AUH, checking into a hotel in or near the respective airport for a shower, exercise, meal, sleep & breakfast the next morning. Civilised. And zero jet lag. And you get a quick look a country u may not have been in.

Most flight combos allow you to leave your checked bags to the airlines, and just take carry on bag to the hotels. No need to check in to flights 2 & 3, just clear immigration & customs with your carry on, as you already have your boarding pass from origin. WARNING: Some combos require collection of your bags and re check in next day, depending on Airlines used and their respective interline agreements. Another thing to consider is arrival taxes and visas, which must be paid/acquired if leaving airside. India is a pain for this. But if you stay in an airline hotel, no probs. There will always be people who want to get to the destination as fast as possible, who will rubbish all of the above, stating waste of time, 2 extra hotel nights to pay, transfer fees etc.

But my clients who did do the above ALWAYS came back with big thanks. And never went back to the exhausting 27 hour Oz Europe flights with massive time changes. The other hack is to ALWAYS fly Westbound. The rotation of Earth helps with getting the day flight timings. Simple physics. Happy transiting! David B. Australia.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for your comment.

Unfortunately, this newsletter is about five months old, so most of the dates mentioned are likely no longer available. For the latest European newsletters, you can visit the itineraries page to see our most up to date availablility.

We hope this helps.

Kind regards, The Point Hacks team

I'm happy to see a new city for a couple of days on both ends of the trip. Australia to Europe needs a layover both ways
